Chromenta offers three types of phenyl HPLC columns. KB-Phenyl and BB-Phenyl both have phenyl-propyl functional group while EP-Phenyl has phenyl-hexyl. In general, phenyl columns are excellent for aromatic compound separations due to the pi-pi interaction. Methanol is often used (instead of acetonitrile) in the mobile phase to minimize the interference. When using higher than 90% organic solvent, the phenyl columns can also be used in HILIC mode for polar molecule separations.
Phenyl columns with methanol mobile phase are commonly used as an orthogonal method to C18 with acetonitrile in the mixture profiling.
